Today is Bingley's birthday and he turns four! For his birthday, he's getting a little party, lots of gifts, and I made his favourite, flourless peanut butter cookies! He's allergic to wheat among lots of other things so this recipe is perfect for him. If you'd like to see that recipe, check here. Last weekend I had a mini wine and cheese party. It's easy to put together, doesn't cost you much, and everyone will enjoy it. To have one of your own, you will need: An assortment of cheese. I used a brie, manchego, a garlic & herb soft cheese, and a spiced goat cheese.
Nuts & Dried Fruit. Use anything you have on hand. Almonds, walnuts, dried apricots, dried cranberries. Endless choices.
Fresh Fruit. Figs, apples, and pears are a nice addition to a wine and cheese spread. They're fresh, and work with everything.
Crackers & Bread. Use different types of crackers. I find that a plain sea salt cracker, and whole wheat work best because they are more sturdy. Choose flavoured ones too! Naan bread and pita bread are lovely as well for spreading cheese on.
I made a cheesy take on a bruschetta. I took a baguette, sliced it into small pieces along the top, not going all the way down. Put mozzarella pieces in between each piece, and put into the oven until the bread is crunchy and the cheese is melted. Top with a bruschetta mixture of chopped tomatoes, garlic, oregano, oil, and salt. You're all done!
Wine. Use whatever you already have, and if you don't have anything, just pick up a $10.00 bottle. It doesn't have to be expensive to be delicious.
Other pairings. Olives, spreads, jams, and jellies all work nicely with everything. Go spicy and sweet for great combinations!
A wine and cheese party is meant to be rustic, delicious, and creative. There are endless cheese, fruit, nut combinations that you can achieve so just have fun! You won't break the bank with this, and everyone will be impressed, trust me.
May 9th is Mr. Bingley's birthday, and of course, we throw him a puppy party! He turned the big 3 years old. We had party hats and crowns, toys for him, and I made vanilla cupcakes with sprinkles on them (for the humans)! The point is, Bingley is family to me and I want to make him feel special. Dogs provide humans with so much joy and happiness so when we can share it with them, please do. Celebrate your pup's birthday, and try to get them in a party hat! (I feel so accomplished that I got Bing in one!) Happy birthday Bingley!
