It's A New Year

Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all enjoyed your holidays and use today as a day to rest and recoup. Everyone always makes new year's resolutions, although I never have. If you think of the new year as a time to change, then think of it as a revolution! A New Year's revolution encompasses all aspects of your life: health, financial, work related, and your personal goals. For each area of your revolution, make goals to change something. It can be as small as putting away $5 extra per week in your savings, or adding more greens into your diet. Regardless of what you actually choose to change, write it down! You are more likely to accomplish your goals if you write them down, and you'll also have a written history of your success.

Now it is time for me to write down my revolutionary goals, and more importantly, rest! Last night involved so much food, words can not do it justice. Once again, happy new year!

The Art of Christmas Shopping

Shopping in general can be pretty stressful. Shopping for clothes when you need them usually doesn't work out well since it always seems that nothing looks good or fits well. Shopping for gifts is similar since you're buying for the ones you love, and that can be stressful. Over the years I've learned how to deal with the stress of Christmas and most importantly I've learned how to conquer the dreaded task. First things first, make a list! As you may know I'm a big list lover. Making a list is important because you'll figure out where you need to go and what exactly you're going to buy. Think about what each person wants or needs, and there you go! Christmas gifts should be one of two things for me: 1. Personal or 2. Yummy!

Next up, scout out the sales. Christmas gift shopping shouldn't make you broke. You buy what you can, and when you can find good deals, you take them! Finding deals also means shopping online. You can get so many deals online, my favourite online shop is Indigo. Your order comes super fast and they have so many products to choose from at wonderful deals.

Finally, keep calm in the stores. Shop either in the morning or in the evening. You have a better chance of being alone in the stores which allows you to stay calm. Also, wear layers so you don't get too toasty in the really warm stores. No sweating is another way for you to stay calm.

Once you get all your gifts, you'll need to wrap them up. The hard task is done and you can turn on that Christmas music, make a warm drink, and wrap those gifts!

Its Study Time

Here comes the start of the dreaded time of year, exams. These are special exams since they're only midterms. They're "special" because they come at a time of holiday and at a time of paper crunch. As we can't get rid of it, we can only try to make it as painless as possible. I'm in the midst of studying for three consecutive midterms. They're heavy in material, and a little dull as well. The first thing I do when preparing to study is make a handy dandy to do list! (Check out my post on the importance of to do lists here)

After that is done, and I've made all my notes, I create a comfortable and organized environment. Not too comfortable or else I'll fall asleep or have my mind wander. I light some candles, have all my material within sight and reach, and get cracking. You need to be physically relaxed to study, I find, or else you'll get even more stressed and tense that you already are. Keep positive, focused, and you'll make it through!

My ideal environment to study is next to my pup Bingley on the couch, wrapped in blankets, tea in hand, and study notes in the other!

The Importance of a To Do List

No matter if you're working full time, or in school like myself, balancing everything you need to do can be a tricky business. How does one manage everything and still stay sane? For me, I use a To Do list. A To Do list may seem so simple, and it is, but it is also a good way of actually keeping track of what you need to do, and what you've already done. I use an agenda for a day to day list, and a white board to keep all of my ongoing tasks and expecting dates in order. If I didn't come up with a list, and actually keep track of my things, who knows what kind of state I would be in.

Start with all the things you need to do in a day on your list, and keep it going for all your upcoming important things. For today, I had to clean my apartment, finish an assignment, and read a novel all before my dad and his friend came over to hook up my dishwasher (It will finally be hooked up - Yay!). My list for today, and all its completed (small) accomplishments have inspired this post.

Hopefully this will inspire you to come up with a written list to keep yourself organize, at least on all the small things you need to do in a day.

Summer Goals

I remember when I was younger I used to make a list of things I wanted to do in the summer; sadly, that habit faded away. This summer break will change because I already have a list of things I want to do. I just finished school and the next two-three months off will be filled with delightful reading, painting, lots of photography and preparing for my next art show, eating, decorating my first apartment, spending time with my loved ones and Bingley, and hopefully going to the Toronto Zoo to see those cute pandas! All around I just want to do things that make me happy (while spending the least amount of money). Do you have plans for the summer, even if you have a break or not?

Turning big tasks into small ones

I'm happy to say that I accomplished the big goal for my week, which was my art history exam. (WOO!) Hopefully your list of goals is diminishing, and you can start thinking about goals for the month. Like I said in my earlier post, goals don't have to be huge and daunting. If you have a large task, just break it down. For example, if you need to clean your apartment. Write a list of all the small tasks that make up the full cleaning and cross each one off when you complete it. It'll give you this great feeling of accomplishment, and you'll also be getting more done.

Writing down your to do list really will help get you organized. Try it out!

How to start this goal making business...

Goals can be daunting. Dreams on the other hand seem like the most wonderful thing. The one thing you need to remember is that goals are the dreams that come true... and that's because of you! Start a list of goals for the week. It doesn't have to be a huge list, just a few couple things to get done. For me, it will be to write another blog post (it'll be on the delicious dinner I had tonight), and to do well on my upcoming art history exam. It's quick and simple, and most importantly, it will get you on the path to big goal success!
